Started in 2001, the .NAME domain name extension is the only one planned for personal websites only. These domain names can be personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are known by. At the beginning, only third-level registrations were permitted, so if you desired to reserve john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already grabbed 3rd-level domain names remained running.

You will have the opportunity to update the WHOIS details, to park your domain, to edit Custom DNS records, etc. You can also move over an already registered domain to our company if you have its EPP transfer code from the present registration service provider and we will renew it once the transfer has been finished. There are no specific rules on who can grab a dot NAME domain name, but in order to keep the objective behind its establishment alive, the Registry organization may verify who the Registrant is and if there is no relation between the owner and the actual domain, the registration might be challenged.
