More and more people use mobile devices to access online content, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is constantly increasing. To meet this demand, the entity that supervises the generic top-level extensions, ICANN, established the dot MOBI domain name extension in 2005. The first registrations were started in September 2006, and the concept behind this domain extension is that all websites that use it need to comply with certain restrictions. In other words, all .MOBI websites should be developed to be viewed without problems by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” established by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the dot MOBI Registry organization. These involve how a website is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.

The requirements have raised some worries in view of the fact that the generic TLD is the only one that specifies what devices must be able to access a website and the way in which this has to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a site should be created in such a way as to be accessed by the majority of web browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Given that the dot MOBI Registry does not register domains directly, you can get a dot MOBI domain with any third-party firm, such as ours.
