An SRV record is a DNS record, that is used to direct a domain name to a third-party server and employ it for some service different from a site. This may be a Voice-Over-IP server, a video streaming service, an instant messaging system, and many others. When an SRV record is set up, you could specify an Internet Protocol which the domain address will use and the port, which is to be used to connect to the remote server. Moreover, provided that you have several SRV records for the same service, you'll be able to set various priorities and weights for each and every one of them, allowing you to spread the load between many machines. Such a record will enable you to employ the same domain name or subdomains under it with different companies, so you can employ it for different purposes even if you are unable to get all the services from one service provider.
SRV Records in Shared Hosting
The Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with each and every Linux shared plan we offer, will provide you with an easy means to create any DNS record that you need for a domain name or a subdomain inside your account. The easy-to-use interface is much more simple than what other companies provide and you'll not have to do anything more than to fill a couple of boxes. For a new SRV record, you have to log in, check out the DNS Records section and then click the "New" button. Inside the small pop-up which will show up, you have to enter the service, protocol and port info. You can also set the priority and weight values, which should be between 1 and 100, that would make a difference if you have no less than 2 servers dealing with the exact same service. If you use a machine from a different company, they may also ask you to set a TTL value different from the default 3600 seconds. This value specifies how long the newly created record is going to remain operational after you change it in the future.
SRV Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Setting up a new SRV record for every single domain address hosted within a semi-dedicated server account on our end is going to be very easy and is going to take no more than a couple of clicks using a user-friendly interface. Using the DNS administration tool within your Hepsia hosting CP, you can create any record that you need and as soon as you select SRV as the type, several more textboxes will appear on your screen. There, you'll have to input the record value, the service, the protocol along with the port number and you will be ready. Optionally, in case the other service provider requires it, you will also be able to set the weight and priority values in case they have to be different from the default value, which is 10. The range for these two options is from 1 to 100, so you will have numerous possibilities if you use many servers for a specific service. You can also determine how long the newly created SRV record will remain live if you remove it in the future by setting a TTL (Time To Live) value for it. By default, the TTL is 3600 seconds.
