An access log is a complete list of all the files that were accessed by the visitors of a given website. Any file that was requested for whatever reason will be listed, so if you have a single webpage with three embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, as an example, the access log shall contain a total of six entries - one for every of the six files which were accessed when the visitor opened the webpage. A log normally contains the file name and path, the date, as well as the visitor’s Operating System, web browser and IP address. Occasionally you could also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your site. The info that an access log file contains is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to prepare reports on the functionality of a site, aside from the web stats that your web hosting server may have generated.
Access Log Manager in Shared Hosting
Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. As soon as you sign in to your shared hosting account and go to this section, you shall find a list of all the domain names and subdomains which you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to click on a button that will be available next to every single domain/subdomain. In case the option is enabled, you'll see a download link along with the file size so far, so you'll be able to save the file to your personal computer and look at it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect instantaneously, so if you don't need one, you'll be able to stop it with simply a click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You'll still be able to access the already developed content by simply clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it won't take more than several clicks to trigger the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The function may be activated from the Hepsia website hosting Control Panel and this can be done individually for each and every domain name or subdomain you have inside your account. After you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to every one of them. A single click shall activate the log generation and another one will deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great efficiency. A Download link inside the same section will allow you to save the created content as a text file, which you may then use on your notebook or computer. Even when the logs are disabled, you shall still be able to download the data that's been previously generated.
