A password-protected directory is a folder that cannot be accessed unless the correct login details are provided. This can be an entire Internet site or just one page that is situated in a subfolder. If you attempt to open such a directory, you'll see a web browser pop-up where you will need to enter a username as well as a password. If you input the right ones, you will be able to continue browsing the content without having to do anything else. In case the login credentials are not correct, however, you will see a message that you are not permitted to view the content. If this feature is activated, you won't be able to open a file even if you have a direct link. The function is extremely practical if you want to limit the access to some content or if you are creating a site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.
Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take merely several clicks and a few seconds if you host your Internet sites in a shared hosting account with us. You shall not have to do anything challenging - you will have to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it must be protected, and then to type in the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. When a number of people require their own login credentials, there won't be a problem to create numerous different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this option is active. If you want to deactivate the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the very same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you shall be able to protect any content which you have uploaded using our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's a part of, so you will not need to type in any code at any time. You'll only need to pick one of the domains/subdomains that you have in the web hosting account and to pick which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. Then you can type in the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be good to go. The protection shall be switched on straightaway, so anyone who tries to access the freshly protected folder will have to type in the correct login information. In cases where several individuals should be able to access exactly the same content, you could make a separate username for each one.
