Having total control over your domain names is something really important and to be able to access and edit the DNS records for every one of them is among the things you should look for when you search for a registration or a shared hosting provider. You may have heard about the so-called “name servers” that show where a domain is hosted, but below them you will find a whole group of records, for example the A record, which is the IP address of the server hosting the site, and the MX records, which show the server that deals with the e-mails for a specific domain address. These records are employed if you would like have your site with one provider and the e-mails with another, as an illustration. You may also use a domain for a non-website service or direct the traffic to it using special records. Many companies ask for an additional fee to give access to edit particular DNS records besides the name servers.
